O Barroco da Subtração, 2026

Selected for group exhibition :
Afinidades – Práticas Gráficas Contemporâneas (2026)
Associação Quarteirão Criativo – Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis – Porto

This graphic composition stems from my observation of an 18th-century English mug from the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis collection, taking inspiration from the lapidary cutting techniques used by the glassmakers of Coina (1719-1747).

Drawing a direct parallel between printmaking and lapidary cut, the gouge carving into linoleum mirrors the glassmaker’s gesture of removing matter to camouflage flaws and catch light. Through a layered interplay of charcoal, linocut, graphite, and blind embossing, the piece translates the transparency and physical weight of Joanine glass into paper.
